This Is Not Democracy. It Is a Modernized Feudal Order.
When religion enters politics and the working class is sent to die for elite power, calling it democracy becomes a lie.
The Mask Is Off
A U.S. military commander reportedly told soldiers that Trump had been anointed by Jesus and that war with Iran was part of a biblical end-times plan. In the White House, pastors gathered around the president, laid hands on him, and prayed while bombs were already falling overseas. Politicians wrapped state violence in moral language, called war righteous, and sold destruction as duty.
This is not some fringe embarrassment. It is not one unhinged officer or one awkward prayer circle. It is a pattern. Religion is being pulled directly into the machinery of power, and once that happens, politics stops being politics. It becomes obedience dressed up as faith.
A Secular Republic in Name Only
The United States loves to present itself as a secular democracy, but that claim is becoming harder to take seriously. America’s own political tradition once insisted that religion should not control public power. That was supposed to be the line separating a republic from clerical rule.
That line is fading.
Democracy does not require people to be non-religious. But it does require the state to remain secular. Once the state begins leaning toward one religious worldview, neutrality collapses. Equality weakens. Some citizens become more legitimate than others, and political disagreement starts getting treated like moral deviance. Elections may still exist, but the substance underneath them begins to rot.
Religion Does Not Enter Alone
Religion is only part of the problem. The real sickness appears when religion fuses with extreme capitalism. Then the structure becomes obvious. Capital controls the resources. Religion provides moral legitimacy. The state enforces order. The working class pays the price.
That is not modern democracy. That is a modernized feudal order.
America did not abolish feudal logic. It updated it. The old system ran on hierarchy, inherited privilege, and divine sanction. The new one runs on concentrated wealth, media power, electoral machinery, religious mobilization, and state violence. The language changed. The structure did not.
This woman is Paula White, the pastor Trump appointed to lead the White House Faith Office, and she is blowing into a microphone to perform an exorcism, if Iran is a theocratic state run by religious figures, then what exactly does that make the United States?
Worse Than the Old Order
In one important way, this system is even worse than feudal society. At least older ruling classes often tied prestige to visible risk. Today’s elites want the privilege without the danger. The people making decisions do not fight. The people promoting war do not bleed. The people who die are poor, working-class, disposable.
That is the real arrangement. The upper class produces the slogans. The lower class buries the bodies.
This is why all the patriotic and religious theater matters. It is not decoration. It is a tool. It turns class rule into morality. It turns war into duty. It teaches ordinary people to confuse submission with virtue while elites keep cashing in.
Trumpism Is Reactionary
The movement around Trump should be named correctly. It is not just conservatism. It is reactionary.
It is not trying to preserve democracy. It is trying to hollow it out. It wants weaker secular limits, stronger religious influence, less room for dissent, and a harder hierarchy built around nationalism, capital, and moral authority. This is not reform. It is counter-revolution.
That is why Trumpism keeps circling around the same instincts: worship authority, moralize violence, criminalize dissent, and tell one part of the country that it alone is the “real” nation. That is not democratic renewal. That is a project of political rollback.
War Reveals the Truth
War exposes the whole structure because war always needs a story. Religion provides one of the strongest stories available. Once violence is framed as righteous, it becomes easier to sell. Once enemies are cast as evil, compromise becomes weakness. Once power claims divine legitimacy, accountability disappears.
That is the scam. The interests are material. Oil, dominance, contracts, empire, power. But the language used to sell it is moral and sometimes openly religious. The point is to hide interests behind righteousness.
Final Point
This is why the anger is justified. This is not just about evangelicals being extreme or Trump being outrageous, even if both are true. The deeper problem is structural. The American system is becoming more comfortable with a fusion of religion, capital, state power, and violence. Once those four lock together, democracy does not disappear overnight. It survives as a brand, but not as a reality.
What remains is a system that still holds elections, still waves flags, still talks about freedom, but operates more and more like a hierarchy protected by faith, money, and force. That is not democracy. That is a modernized feudal order.
