Who was John Rabe?
He served as a Siemens representative in Nanjing and became head of their local branch by 1931. In 1934, he joined the Nazi Party mainly to safeguard his career.
When Japanese forces advanced on Nanjing, most foreigners fled. Rabe stayed.
