The entire system is geared to keep people poor. The issue is technology is changing so quickly this will become obsolete soon too. The only way forward is a system which genuinely cares for its people.
Some governments might care about their own people, but it will not always be like that.
I think the only way the people and the ruling class can coexist is if the ruling class understands that their existence is based on the support of the people. Unfortunately, in the States, the ruling class has successfully manipulated people into fighting each other; hence, they don't have to care about the people to exist.
I always find it strange when being alive and living is about being around people. And if everyone around you is struggling and you are hoarding everything it is truly sad to think that you could have no empathy for the community around you. Can you imagine if billionaires are worked on solving the big problems - without making more “profit” universal health care, affordable education, etc..
This will end when China, having not crippled its research sector, devises a biotechnological process to supply its plasma products needs for less money than they're paying now for commodity poor peoples' blood. Note that the real struggle will be the same then as it is now - both here in the fascist sandbox, and in the vainglorious Peoples' Republic.
