When the Abolitionist Abraham Lincoln became President, the slave owners launched the War of Rebellion, which they eventually lost. Slavery was abolished with the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. But how to manage the newly empowered working class? Finance capitalism. Because a big part of the US economy at that time was agriculture, finance capitalism offered credit to new farmers where previously credit was offered to slave owners. Debt was used to enslave all workers even as racism was used to divide workers and head off state banks. Debt is the new slavery, and we need a new abolitionist movement.
