Elon Musk promised a new “America Party.” Many people supported the idea because they are tired of a political system that never changes. They hoped a billionaire with resources could shake the foundations of the two-party order. That was a fantasy. Musk dropped the plan before it even started and is now backing JD Vance, Trump’s chosen heir.

This is not a failure. It is a betrayal. And it follows the same logic every capitalist follows.

Why People Fell for It

Ordinary Americans know the system is broken. Wages stagnate while costs rise. Healthcare, housing, and education are out of reach. Both Democrats and Republicans serve donors first. A third party sounds like an escape from a rigged game. Musk played into that hope, but he never had any interest in building a real movement.
